Plans at L.A. Gathering
WHO: Southern California Venture Network (SCVN), a nonprofit
organization, hosts informal monthly forums uniting entrepreneurs,
business executives, management candidates, venture capital investors
and other money providers to help develop entrepreneurial ventures.
SCVN is open to graduates of one of Southern California’s universities
including (USC, UCLA, CalTech, LMU, Pepperdine, Northridge, UCI,
Chapman, Cal Poly SLO, UCSB, UCR, Cal Poly Pomona, Claremont, SDSU,
USD, UCSD, etc.)
WHAT: Start-up companies are competitively selected to pitch
their business plans to an audience consisting of venture capitalists,
experienced executives, academicians, and management candidates who
provide an assessment of the company's model. This month’s presenters
include Steamboat Software, provider of rendering software for the
creation of high end graphics for major feature films, commercials and
interactive games; BCC Technologies which designs, manufactures and
sells storage infrastructure products for midrange servers;
StarTraffic, the only service of its kind on the Internet providing
GPS based, real time and personalized traffic information to mobile
customers. The distinguished panel of venture capitalists will include
Ted Alexander of Mission Ventures, Gene Manheimer of Goldeneye
International and Jenny Sakhrani of Philosopher Stone..
WHEN/ADMISSION/WHERE: Tuesday, July 10th, 2001 at 6:00 pm.
Admission is $20; attendance is free with annual membership. The
presentations will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in the Irvine
Spectrum, 90 Pacifica Avenue, Irvine, California 92618, 949-471-8888.

WHY: The SCVN has become one of the region's top-tier
catalysts for invigorating entrepreneurship. It was developed to
provide entrepreneurs a forum to hone their business plans by
presenting and defending them, as well as creating opportunities with
potential investors, partners, customers and providing a general
peer-to-peer networking environment.
HOW: SCVN membership consists of early to mid-stage
entreprenreurs, savvy investors, accomplished business professionals,
and astute academicians from diverse managemnet and financial
backgrounds dedicated to developing high-growth companies throughout
Southern California. Annual membership fees are $125; student
