Test Drive Business
Plans at Newport Beach Gathering
WHO: Southern California Venture Network (SCVN), a nonprofit
organization, hosts informal monthly forums uniting entrepreneurs,
business executives, management candidates, venture capital investors
and other money providers to help develop entrepreneurial ventures.
SCVN is open to graduates of one of Southern California’s universities
including (USC, UCLA, CalTech, LMU, Pepperdine, Northridge, UCI,
Chapman, Cal Poly SLO, UCSB, UCR, Cal Poly Pomona, Claremont, SDSU,
USD, UCSD, etc.)
WHAT: Start-up companies are competitively selected to pitch
their business plans to an audience consisting of venture capitalists,
experienced executives, academicians, and management candidates who
provide an assessment of the company's model. This month’s presenters
include IBR, led by the founder of FirstCall, which provides
proprietary research tools to financial institutions to better manage
and track information costs; Glossa, which has leveraged its
Universal Translator to become the most advanced commercial
translation technology available; Spun.com, the Web's first cash-free
exchange of digital entertainment products (CDs, DVDs and video
games).
The distinguished panel of venture capitalists will include Bridget
Karlin of Redleaf Ventures, Greg
Martin of Redpoint Ventures and
TBD.
WHEN/ADMISSION/WHERE: Tuesday, October 9th, 2001 at 6:30pm.
Admission is $30; attendance is free with annual membership. The
presentations will be held at the Sutton Place Hotel on MacArthur

WHY: The SCVN has become one of the region's top-tier
catalysts for invigorating entrepreneurship. It was developed to
provide entrepreneurs a forum to hone their business plans by
presenting and defending them, as well as creating opportunities with
potential investors, partners, customers and providing a general
peer-to-peer networking environment.
HOW: SCVN membership consists of early to mid-stage
entreprenreurs, savvy investors, accomplished business professionals,
and astute academicians from diverse managemnet and financial
backgrounds dedicated to developing high-growth companies throughout
Southern California. Annual membership fees are $125; student
